Lighting the path ahead |

One of the rites of entering NTU as a new student is the Freshmen Welcome Ceremony, an event that gives freshers the chance to meet senior university leaders, the professors of their College and, of course, friends with whom they will be learning and working together. A key part of the ceremony is the lighting of torches by the freshmen; in the darkened auditorium, row upon row of lights slowly emerge, bringing a glow to the faces of the students. “Each of you freshmen here today has been given a torch; it is a torch that symbolises the light of learning and legacy,” noted NTU President Dr Su Guaning at the first Freshmen Welcome Ceremony for 2009. “Here at Nanyang, we give you the means to light the path ahead. You have the choice to carry the hope of future generations in your hands.”
